Another QB down: Jameis Winston knocked out of Sunday's game
Aaron Rodgers’ injury overshadowed everything else in the NFL on Sunday, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a dangerous injury issue too.
Jameis Winston came out of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a shoulder injury. The Buccaneers were already trailing 24-0 when that happened. It was salt in the wound.
Winston remained on the sideline and was listed as doubtful to return by the team, which indicated the injury wasn’t too severe. Perhaps he’d have tried to keep playing but the Buccaneers wanted to be safe considering they were already trailing by 24 points. Clearly, the Buccaneers would be in big trouble if Winston had to miss any time.
Ryan Fitzpatrick relieved Winston in Tampa’s 38-33 defeat and finished 22-of-32 for 290 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Buccaneers are off to a disappointing 2-3 start and Winston hasn’t been great. He was a breakout candidate this season because the Buccaneers upgraded the talent around him, but he hasn’t taken off. He missed way too many throws last week in a loss to the New England Patriots, and got nothing going against the Cardinals as the Buccaneers fell way behind. Then Winston went out with an injury.
Tampa Bay will be hoping Winston’s injury isn’t too bad. Even though he’s not off to a great start, going forward without him would be much worse.
