Alex Anzalone injury update: Detroit Lions LB ruled out in concussion protocol vs. Bucs

The Detroit Lions starting middle linebacker Alex Anzalone was placed in concussion protocol in the second half of the game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Bucs at Ford Field.

Anzalone was ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion, the team announced late in the fourth quarter.

He got hit in the head by fellow linebacker Derrick Barnes while pursuing Baker Mayfield on the quarterback's 11-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds left in the third quarter. Anzalone walked off and no trainers came onto the field.

The score gave the Bucs a 20-16 lead.

Third-year linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez filled Anzalone's spot in base defense, and veteran special-teams ace Jalen Reeves-Maybin also saw some snaps.
