Alabama vaults into top 10 of new AP Top 25 college football poll after statement win

Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide put on a clinic Saturday night in Tiger Stadium against the LSU Tigers, getting a 42-13 blowout win. As a result, Kalen DeBoer's team moved up in this week's AP Top 25 college football poll, released Sunday.

As with the US LBM Coaches Poll, Alabama rose two spots to No. 9 in the AP poll. The Crimson Tide jumped past the Miami Hurricanes (9-1) and the Georgia Bulldogs (7-2), who both lost Saturday.

Alabama ranks one spot below No. 8 Notre Dame in the AP poll and one spot above the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels, who pulled a 28-10 upset win over Georgia at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Lane Kiffin's team was the biggest riser in this week's poll, moving up six spots to No. 10.

The Crimson Tide (7-2 overall, 4-2 SEC) remain the highest-ranked two-loss team in the polls. Georgia suffered the biggest drop of any ranked team this week, falling nine spots from No. 2 to No. 11.

Other teams that fell after Week 11 were LSU (down seven spots to No. 21) and Miami (down eight spots to No. 12).

The Oregon Ducks (10-0) retained the top spot in the AP poll after their 39-18 win over the Maryland Terrapins. The Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1) moved up one spot to No. 2 after blanking Purdue, 45-0, in Columbus. The Texas Longhorns (No. 3, 8-1) moved up two spots in the AP poll, as did the Penn State Nittany Lions (No. 4, 8-1).

The Indiana Hoosiers (10-0) rounded out the top five at No. 5 after beating the Michigan Wolverines, 20-15, in Bloomington.

Further down the polls, South Carolina (6-3) jumped into the Top 25 for the first time this season after a dominant 28-7 win over Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 23.

Missouri (7-2) moved back into the rankings at No. 24 after beating Oklahoma, 30-23, in CoMo. Tulane (8-2) rounded out the top 25 after mauling Temple, 52-6, on Saturday in New Orleans.

Alabama football 2024 schedule: Who's next?

Alabama will host the Mercer Bears next Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on SEC Network+. Mercer improved to 9-1 with a 34-0 shutout win over VMI over the weekend and lead the Southern Conference standings.
