Alabama strength coach smashes 2016 runner-up trophy with sledgehammer (Video)
Alabama came up short of winning the national title last year, losing to Clemson 35-31 on a last-second touchdown.
The Tide does not want that to happen again. This scene from the locker room on Thursday should tell you all you need to know.
That’s strength coach Scott Cochran smashing last year’s runner-up trophy to the ground and breaking it into little pieces. And if that wasn’t enough, Cochran brought in a sledgehammer to finish the job.
You can watch the full video here. Cochran uses several expletives while getting his point across. The Tide, who face Georgia in Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship, does not want to bring another second-place trophy back to Tuscaloosa.
The players certainly seemed on board with the message, though a little less emphatically.
Beyond their duties in the weight room, strength coaches are huge motivators for college football programs. If doing something like this motivates the Bama players, Cochran, who is known to be, um, eccentric, is doing his job.
Though I bet Nick Saban would have preferred this not make the rounds on social media.
