Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa has sprained knee, but Nick Saban says it's 'not an issue'
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is dealing with a sprained knee.
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban told reporters about the injury on Wednesday, but noted that his star sophomore QB has not been limited in practice at all in the lead-up to Saturday’s game against Missouri.
“Tua has taken every rep in practice,” Saban said. “We did put a brace on him just to protect him, but he’s been able to do all the work in practice, so that’s not an issue.”
Tagovailoa, the current favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, hurt the knee during last weekend’s win over Arkansas. After sustaining the injury, Tagovailoa played part of the game while wearing the brace Saban mentioned.
Tagovailoa has been excellent in his first season as Alabama’s starter. Through six games, he has thrown for 1,495 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 75.2 percent of his throws. He has not yet thrown an interception.
A more concerning injury for Alabama is the loss of starting cornerback Trevon Diggs. Saban said Wednesday that the junior is likely out for the season after after breaking his foot in the Arkansas game.
“It’s going to be an extended period of time. What he has is going to take a while,” Saban said. “I would be surprised if he’ll be able to come back by the end of the season.”
Alabama’s game against Missouri (3-2, 0-2 SEC) kicks off at 7 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.
