For the first time in nearly 20 years, someone other than Nick Saban will be roaming the Alabama sideline.

One of the many interesting subplots to the 2024 college football season will be in Tuscaloosa, where Kalen DeBoer will take over for the retired Saban, perhaps the most decorated coach in the sport’s history.

With the Crimson Tide, DeBoer will look to do what he has throughout his head-coaching career: not just win, but win big. DeBoer has gone 104-12 as a head coach, including a 37-9 mark at the FBS level. Most recently, he went 25-3 in two years at Washington, a stint that was highlighted by a run to the College Football Playoff championship game last season.

Whether he can do what so few have over the course of college football history — successfully replace a legendary coach — remains to be seen, but regardless of how he does, few teams in the country will be more closely followed than the Tide.
