Alabama football GM Courtney Morgan gets eye-opening raise in newly approved contract

Alabama football general manager Courtney Morgan received a raise in pay to $825,000 in 2025 in a new contract approved Tuesday by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees. It's a whopping 65% bump in pay for Morgan, whose initial contract at UA, approved just five months ago in March, was for $500,000. The following year, in 2026, Morgan will earn $875,000. For the remainder of 2024, Morgan's pay will be prorated to $775,000.

Although technically a support staffer, Morgan now becomes higher paid than several of the Crimson Tide's on-field assistant coaches. His value to new coach Kalen DeBoer has been evident since DeBoer was hired in January. Morgan played a role in keeping the Crimson Tide's roster together during an initial transfer portal window. Primarily, however, he's been a key figure in Alabama's recruiting efforts both in the transfer portal, and in assembling what is currently the No. 2-ranked signing class in the nation for 2025.

Morgan, who was DeBoer's first hire upon his arrival in January, served in the same role under DeBoer for two years at Washington.

New contracts were also approved for UA gymnastics coach Ashley Johnston (five years, $225,000/year), women's basketball coach Kristy Curry (five years, $650,000/year), track and field coach Dan Waters (four years, $300,000/year), assistant baseball coach Jason Jackson (two years, $300,000 in first year, $310,000 in second year), men's tennis coach George Husack (two years, $150,000/year) and rowing coach Glenn Putyrae (two years, $180,000/year).
