Adrian Peterson ties Jim Brown on TD list with career-long 90-yard run vs. Eagles
Adrian Peterson was supposed to be washed up.
The Philadelphia Eagles learned the hard way — as many teams have this season — that he most definitely is not.
The Redskins running back burst through the Eagles defense early in the second quarter Monday for a 90-yard touchdown to give Washington a 10-7 lead.
Career run puts Peterson on par with Jim Brown
The run was a career long for Peterson and tied him with Cleveland Browns great Jim Brown with 106 career rushing touchdowns. Peterson now trails Walter Payton, Marcus Allen, LaDainian Tomlinson and Emmitt Smith on the career rushing touchdowns list. Smith tallied 164 for the Dallas Cowboys.
The play came on the first snap with Mark Sanchez at quarterback. Sanchez entered the game in the second quarter after Colt McCoy suffered a leg injury. McCoy took over the starting job after Alex Smith’s devastating leg injury two weeks ago.
Peterson paying dividends in Washington
Peterson is in the midst of a career resurgence in Washington. The Redskins signed Peterson after second-round rookie running back Derrius Guice suffered a torn ACL in the preseason.
He has rewarded the team with 758 rushing yards, 177 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through 11 games prior to Monday as Washington has remained competitive in the NFC East.
His run wasn’t enough for a win on Monday, as the Eagles rolled to a 28-13 win, dominating the second half after Sanchez took over at quarterback.
