Former AC Milan star Paolo Maldini, son test positive for coronavirus
Former AC Milan star and current technical director Paolo Maldini and his 18-year-old son have tested positive for COVID-19, the club announced on Saturday.
Maldini made contact with someone who had tested positive for the coronavirus and started displaying symptoms himself before taking the test on Friday, the club said. His son Daniel, who is a forward for AC Milan’s youth team, was also tested.

“Paolo and Daniel are both well and have already completed two weeks at home without contact with others,” the team said in a statement, in part. “They will now remain in quarantine until clinically recovered, as per the medical protocols outlined by the health authorities.”
Maldini made his debut with AC Milan in 1985 and spent 25 years with the club while playing in more than 600 matches and leading the team to a pair of Serie A championships and two Champions League titles. He made 29 appearances for the Italian national team, too, and led the team to runner-up finishes in both the 1994 World Cup and the Euro 2000.
The 51-year-old is just the latest notable figure in the soccer world to contract the coronavirus. Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla announced he tested positive on Saturday, marking the second confirmed case in the league, and former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz died due to the virus on Saturday, too.
Italy is one of the hardest-hit regions in the world. At least 53,500 people have tested positive in the country as of Saturday afternoon, according to the New York Times. The death toll there rose by nearly 800 people on Saturday alone. The country is currently on lockdown.
