6 big takeaways you might have missed from the Steelers win
It might not have been pretty but the Pittsburgh Steelers got a big win on Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons to start the season 1-0. We all saw what T.J. Watt did, what Chris Boswell did and what George Pickens did. But let's talk about six sneaky takeaways that might have gotten missed.
Zach Frazier is really good
The offensive line as a whole played ok given the injuries but we loved what we saw from rookie center Zach Frazier. Powerful at the point of attack and did well moving to the second level.
Jaylen Warren is still injured...I hope
We have to assume the injury Jaylen Warren is dealing with was the reason he only got four touches all game. This is certainly a situation to monitor going forward with Arthur Smith's history with Cordarrelle Patterson.
No need for a WR2
Maybe the Steelers don't need a second receiver. We saw some nice things from tight end Pat Freiermuth as the team's second option in the passing game and it's clear this offense wants to run more than anything.
Looks like one of those years for Minkah Fitzpatrick
We hate seeing safety Minkah Fitzpatrick lead the team in tackles. This means he's being pushed up into coverage and isn't going to have the chance to make those splash plays that make him such a special player.
Payton Wilson will take over soon
Oh boy, I think the Steelers got a good one in Payton Wilson. He is already the team's nickel inside linebacker and it feels like only a matter of time until he's playing more than Elandon Roberts.
How about that play calling?
It's easy to sit back and watch a Steelers struggling offense and just assume this is the ghost of Matt Canada haunting the team. But the truth is there were a few different wrinkles including some bootleg concepts and zone run schemes we like to see.
