5 things the Steelers must address quickly on a short week
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers got a huge win over the Baltimore Ravens to improve to 8-2 on the season. The win was huge in the context of the season but it wasn't a clean victory by any means. And with just four days to prepare for another AFC North showdown, here are the five priorities for Pittsburgh this week.
Interior defensive line issues
Starting nose tackle Keeanu Benton went down with an injury on Sunday and with such a short turnaround might not be ready to go against the Browns. This is on top of the Steelers placing Benton's backup, Montravius Adams on IR.
How much Justin Fields this week?
The Steelers gave the Browns a taste of what the Justin Fields package looks like and it was fun. Pittsburgh's had a month to get things together so while the team needs to figure out how to get Russell Wilson on track, they cannot neglect what Fields brings to the table.
Cornerback depth
The Steelers held out Cory Trice Jr. this week so we are hopeful he'll be on the field Thursday night and we can breathe better about the struggles of Donte Jackson and James Pierre.
Russell Wilson's problem with defense
The Ravens came out and showed Russell Wilson some looks he wasn't expecting on Sunday and it showed. Dropping two deep safeties really rattled the passing game and you can bet the Browns were paying attention. Wilson can't win consistently with a few moon balls, especially you don't have the time to let those plays come together.
What plan fits on a short week?
We've all seen just how sloppy Thursday Night Football can be but there's no time for the Steelers to take their foot off the gas. So how do the coaches put together a plan to maximize efficiency on short notice? It all starts and stops with the run game controlling the clock.
