Training camp and the preseason in the NFL is a chance for players to make their mark.

Sure, some are locked into jobs. No one is worried if Josh Allen will be the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback (knock on wood) in September.

For those other players, the chance to perform during the dog days of summer gives them a shot at landing on the final 53-man roster. On occasion, a few of those can come out of nowhere.

With that, here are five surprise Bills players who could make the final roster in 2024:

WR Tyrell Shavers

At this point we're a few days into training camp so we can factor that into the equation. The wide receiver room in Buffalo has a ton of uncertainty so it's a position where a surprise could easily find a way onto the roster.

Special teams will have to factor in, but just a few days into camp, Shavers is catching some eyes. He spent last season on the Bills' practice squad:

OL La'el Collins

Those who know Collins might not consider him a surprise. He was once one of the NFL's best linemen but injury has derailed his career. But in general, all depth offensive linemen are under the radar, especially one with an injury history--Collins included.

What makes him worth mentioning is where he has been playing at Bills camp thus far. Known as a tackle throughout his career, Collins is versatile. He's been taking snaps at guard and that could help him force his way onto the roster.

WR Chase Claypool

Claypool's training camp has gone in the opposite direction as the first two noted. He has struggled and been narrowly dodging injury. But Claypool, who is looking for a bounce-back opportunity after a strong start to his NFL career, impressed during spring practices during minicamp.

If Claypool regains that form, he'll have a shot.

DT DeShawn Williams

Williams is an interesting case and could be getting a good look at the roster because of what he revealed to the Buffalo News. According to him, he nearly signed in Buffalo last year but he couldn't come to an agreement with the Bills.

The team evidently liked him enough to back in for him this offseason. It could hold weight.

LB Baylon Spector

Spector has spent time on the Bills roster in years past. However, the Bills signed a few veteran linebackers to compete for playing time with him this offseason with the likes of Deion Jones and Nicholas Morrow. Despite that, Spector is still getting looks on defense at training camp which is a good sign for him.
