5 big takeaways from the Steelers huge win over the Chargers
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from the Los Angeles Chargers late and improve to 3-0 after a 20-10 win. This was the best game the Steelers have played this season and it couldn't have come at a better time. This was a true statement win and the Steelers did exactly what they wanted to on both sides of the football.
Here are our big takeaways from the win.
Nick Herbig was huge
Nick Herbig came in for an injured Alex Highsmith and took control of the game late. He finished with two sacks and was unstoppable opposite of T.J. Watt.
Do the Steelers have their No. 2 wide receiver?
Van Jefferson went out with an eye injury and although he was able to return it was Calvin Austin who stepped up. Austin finished with four catches for 95 yards to lead the Steelers and he showed a little bit of that top gear he had prior to his injury.
Is Jaylen Warren OK?
Mike Tomlin benched running back Jaylen Warren on Sunday and we seriously worry about the injury status of Warren going forward. On the flipside, Cordarrelle Patterson was solid as the backup to Najee Harris.
Justin Fields is getting comfortable
This was definitely the most at ease we saw Justin Fields running the offense. We'd like to see him more aggressive when he wants to run the ball but you can't argue with just how good his arm was on Sunday.
Much cleaner football
The Steelers played a nice, clean game on Sunday. Fields' one interception was a product of a crazy bounce but aside from that things went well. The Steelers were only penalized three times for 15 yards.
