49ers fear that defensive linemen Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas tore their ACLs
The San Francisco 49ers are having a tough start to their NFC championship defense.
They started 0-1 with a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, then had a potentially devastating injury in Week 2.
Nick Bosa, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, had his leg rolled up on in the pile and had to be carted off in the first quarter of the 49ers’ game against the New York Jets. The 49ers took on another injury shortly after when defensive lineman Solomon Thomas went down.
Both didn’t return in the 49ers’ 31-13 blowout of the Jets.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters postgame that the team fears Bosa and Solomon each suffered a torn ACL.

If either player suffered a serious injury, that’s a huge blow to a defensive line that was the strength of the 49ers last season. Bosa was the second pick of the draft last season and made the Pro Bowl. Thomas hasn’t had the same impact but he was the third pick of the 2017 draft and a starter this season.
Already this season the 49ers had receiver Deebo Samuel suffer a foot injury, tight end George Kittle suffer a knee injury that kept him out of Week 2, cornerback Richard Sherman go on IR and then two defensive line injuries including Bosa. Their luck better change soon or it’s going to be tough to repeat as NFC champs.
