30 players to watch: Bucks County boys basketball standouts poised for big seasons

The high school gyms in and around Bucks County are filled with talent on the courts.

The 2023-24 season again will be loaded with quality boys basketball players. Here are 30 players worth keeping an eye on this winter in Bucks and Montgomery counties, listed in alphabetical order by school:

Aaron Jones, Abington junior

What you need to know: Jones seems to fit new coach Dan Marsh's uptempo system especially well, which he showed by scoring 15 points in a win over Cumberland Valley.

Milan Dean, Archbishop Wood junior

What you need to know: Dean is a returning starter from Wood's 2022-23 state semifinal team.

Deuce Maxey, Archbishop Wood junior

What you need to know: Maxey is another solid guard in John Mosco's backcourt-heavy roster.

Jaidyn Moffitt, Bensalem junior

What you need to know: Moffitt provides rebounding and physical play underneath for the Owls.

John Sozio, Bristol sophomore

What you need to know: Voted a team captain as a 10th-grader, Sozio is back starting at shooting guard and can score.

Tyler Dandrea, CB East senior

What you need to know: Dandrea was the Patriots' third-leading scorer a year ago (9 points per game) and should be a bigger factor this season.

Dhruv Mukund, CB East senior

What you need to know: Mukund is also a returning starter from CB East's SOL Colonial Division-winning team that qualified for states.

Matt Engle, CB West senior

What you need to know: Engle, who is back as the improved Bucks' starting point guard, contributed 19 points in a season-opening victory against Pope John Paul II.

Bowen Gugger, CB West

What you need to know: Another returning senior starter, Gugger is a combo forward who defends well and gets to the basket.

Antwone George, Conwell-Egan junior

What you need to know: George is a scorer and a fine defender for the Eagles. He averaged 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals in a solid sophomore campaign.

Gabe Cerulli, CR South senior

What you need to know: One of two returning starters on Andrew Rogers' squad, Cerulli led the Golden Hawks in rebounds and blocked shots a year ago.

Timmy Rahill, CR South senior

What you need to know: Rahill, who averaged 11.1 points last season, scored a team-high 22 points in a victory over Sun Valley.

Grady Burt, CR North junior

What you need to know: Burt transferred from Archbishop Wood and is starting for Derek Wright in the first season of Wright's second stint at CR North.

Oliver Schaefer, CR North junior

What you need to know: Schaefer tallied 22 and 25 points in CR North's first two games this year.

Vaughan Martin, Dock Mennonite senior

What you need to know: A combo guard, Martin can score off the dribble and knock down 3-pointers.

Tristen Guillouette, George School senior

What you need to know: A transfer from St. Joseph's Prep, Guillouette had 19 points in his Cougars' debut.

PIAA enrollment numbers mean changes: In classification for Bucks County area schools

Tyler Sutton, George School freshman

What you need to know: The highly regarded Sutton already has offers from Iowa, Washington, Miami, West Virginia, St. John's and numerous other Division I colleges.

Bryce Presley, Germantown Academy sophomore

What you need to know: Presley was second on the Patriots in scoring as a freshman and made 45 percent of his 3-pointers.

Tre Winton, Harry S. Truman junior

What you need to know: Part of the entire starting lineup back for second-year head coach Randolph Jackson, Winton scored 19 points last Saturday against MaST Charter.

Adrien Varella, Holy Ghost Prep junior

What you need to know: Varella averaged 11 points a year ago and should play a much bigger role this winter, which he demonstrated by scoring 23 in the opening win over Strath Haven.

Nicholas Parisi, La Salle junior

What you need to know: Parisi's productive first half helped the Explorers to a season-opening victory over Downingtown West, then he had a game-high 16 points in La Salle's win against North Penn to take the Trojan Tipoff Classic.

Emeer Coombs, Neshaminy senior

What you need to know: Coombs averaged 10 points, 3 assists and 2 steals a year ago as the Neshaminy point guard and a second-team All-SOL Patriot pick. He had 24 points in the season opener.

Corey Meade, North Penn senior

What you need to know: Meade is at his best when he's attacking the basket, which he did to help the Knights win their first-ever state playoff game a year ago.

Xavier Peters, Pennridge junior

What you need to know: A speedy 5-9 point guard, Peters had a 24-point outing in the season-opening loss to Quakertown after being voted second-team All-SOL Colonial as a sophomore.

Simon Dlugi, Pennsbury senior

What you need to know: The 6-7 center has committed to Division III York College.

Teddy Mangan, Pennsbury, senior

What you need to know: A pass-first point guard, Mangan is one of three starters back for the defending SOL Patriot champion Falcons.

Chanse Salone, Souderton sophomore

What you need to know: Salone hit four 3-pointers and had 22 points in the opening victory against Lansdale Catholic.

Alex Best, Upper Moreland senior

What you need to know: Best chipped in 13 points and converted three 3-pointers in the championship game of the Golden Bears Tipoff Tournament.

Colson Campbell, Upper Moreland junior

What you need to know: Campbell scored 16 points in the Golden Bears' season-opening win after earning second-team All-SOL Freedom laurels as a sophomore.

Imad Abunima, William Tennent senior

What you need to know: Abunima's shooting ability should make him a nice complementary player to leading scorer Kirby Mooney.
