3 things to know about Drew Pyne, Missouri football’s backup quarterback
Backup Missouri football quarterback Drew Pyne entered Missouri football’s game against Auburn after starter Brady Cook went to the locker room in the first quarter with a seeming leg injury.
Here are three things to know about Pyne, Missouri’s backup at quarterback for the 2024 season:
Where did Missouri football backup QB Drew Pyne transfer from?
Pyne was at Arizona State last season, and started the season as the Sun Devils’ backup before taking over starting duties for an injured Jayden Rashada in the third game of the season.
Pyne was shut down for the season with multiple injuries shortly afterward, featuring in two games and not appearing again after Week 4. He completed 26 of 49 passes over two games for 273 yards and tossed two touchdowns and three interceptions.
The quarterback, prior to his stop at ASU, spent three seasons at Notre Dame. He was the Irish’s starter for 10 games in the 2022 season, throwing for 2,021 yards, 22 touchdowns and six picks.
Where did Drew Pyne go to high school?
Pyne was a member of the Class of 2020 at New Canaan High in New Canaan, Conn.
He was a four-star prospect and the No. 8 pro-style quarterback in his class, per the recruiting service 247Sports’ composite rankings. Pyne was ranked as the No. 230 player in the country in that cycle.
How many years of eligibility does Drew Pyne have remaining?
Pyne has three years of eligibility remaining, even despite this being his fifth year of college football.
Pyne, like all players at that time, was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA for being a player during the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, and then redshirted the 2021 season with the Irish. He medically redshirted with Arizona State in 2023, meaning he has used just one of his four granted years of eligibility.
After this season, Pyne will have two more seasons to play football, meaning he could potentially spend eight years in the sport, if he so chooses.
