After 25 years, 'A League of Their Own' is still a hit for young girls

The great baseball movie “A League of Their Own” turned 25 in 2017, which is older than every single one of the girls who attended Baseball For All’s 2017 National Tournament. But ask most of them if they’ve seen it and their response was some variation of “Well, duh.”

For them, the very idea that girls who play baseball wouldn’t watch a movie about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was insane. So of course we had to ask them about it. The girls took a few minutes off from their duties in the diamond to share their favorite “A League of Their Own” scenes with Big League Stew, and there’s a good chance that some your favorite scenes are included.

“A League of Their Own” was on everyone’s minds at Nationals, and not just because the movie was celebrating an anniversary. The tournament took place at the former home stadium of the Rockford Peaches, Beyer Stadium. This new generation of girls who play baseball took their swings and threw their pitches on the same ground as the trailblazing women who played in their own organized league more than 70 years ago.

If anyone was worried that a younger generation of girls wouldn’t have the same appreciation for “A League of Their Own,” this video should quell those fears. The movie and its spirit are alive and well.
