2022 F1 drivers: How much they make and the schedule for this season.

The 2021 Formula One racing season was the most-viewed season to date in the U.S., with an average of 949,000 viewers per race, according to ESPN Press Room.

The 2021 season’s Miami Grand Prix, which ended in a controversial victory for Max Verstappen according to Man of Many, averaged 2.6 million viewers at any given moment, setting the record for a live Formula One telecast in the U.S.

As of May 10, 2022, the 2022 season average viewership was higher than the 2021 average, demonstrating the sport’s growing popularity in the U.S.

How much do F1 drivers make?

Since 2017, there have been 10 Formula One teams each year. There is a maximum of 13 teams, but due to the $200 million upfront premium for new teams, there is a significant barrier to entry, according to One Stop Racing.

As of 2022, F1 drivers are salaried at anywhere from $40 million to $750,000, according to Spotrac.

Because each team has two drivers, there have been a total of 20 drivers in a Formula 1 Grand Prix each year since 2017. Here are the salaries, countries of origin, sponsors and car numbers for the drivers in 2022, according to Spotrac:

2022 Formula One Season Schedule

The 2022 F1 season was supposed to be the longest to date, with 23 races planned at the start of the season, according to Goodwood Road & Racing.

The cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix, though, left the 2022 season tied with the 2021 season’s length of 22 races, according to WTF1.com.
