2 Texas Tech football defenders listed out for Abilene Christian game

The Texas Tech football team will be without some depth on the defensive side of the ball when the Red Raiders begin the 2024 campaign on Saturday.

Tech's first weekly availability report of the season lists junior outside linebacker Charles Esters III and redshirt freshman defensive back Javeon Wilcox as out for the game against Abilene Christian (6:30 p.m. on ESPN+). Esters's injury is listed as a thigh. Wilcox is out with a knee injury.

Quincy Ledet Jr., who was listed as Tech's starting nose tackle, is questionable with a lower leg injury.

The program announced Sunday night that it will begin to provide injury updates of its own throughout the season. It will be found in that week's game notes, which release on Mondays, and the team will provide a game-day update about 45 minutes before kickoff each week.

All of Tech's listed injuries come from the defensive side. Sophomore outside linebacker Dylan Spencer has already been ruled out for the season after suffering a non-contact knee injury in the first few days of preseason camp.
