We are aware some users are experiencing issues accessing their Yahoo Mail using third-party mail clients. Removing and re-entering your Yahoo Mail password in the email client should solve this. Read our help article for more information and steps. You may also access Yahoo Mail on the web at mail.yahoo.com or using the Yahoo Mail app for iOS or Android.

Generate and manage 3rd-party app passwords

Third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign-in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You'll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your 3rd party email app.

App passwords remain active - even if you change your main account password. To invalidate an app password you must delete it.

Generate an app password

When creating an app password, use a browser that you've used to sign into Yahoo for several days in a row and avoid using Incognito mode. If this isn’t successful, use webmail or the official Yahoo App to access your email. Customer care can’t override this process of determining App Password creation eligibility.

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.
  2. Click Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Enter your app's name in the text field.
  5. Click Generate password.
  6. Use the one-time password to log in to your 3rd party app .
  7. Click Done.

Delete an app password

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.
  2. Click Generate and manage app passwords.
  3. Click Delete next to the app password you want to delete.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.
