Password and Yahoo ID issues

You forgot your password or Yahoo ID

You get an "Invalid ID or Password" error

This error message means that the password and Yahoo ID combination you entered doesn't match what we have on record. Consider the following:

Other sign-in issues

You get a "First time signing in here?" message

If you sign in from a device, program, or location that we haven't seen you use before, we may ask you to enter a verification code (sent to your recovery mobile phone or email) to verify that it's really you. If the recovery options displayed for your account are out-of-date, go to the "Can't sign in after trying the steps above?" section of this help article for more info.

Your Yahoo account is locked

To protect your account, it may be temporarily locked after too many unsuccessful attempts to sign in. It will unlock automatically after 12 hours, but you can always regain access immediately using the Sign-in Helper.

If you've been asked to verify your identity multiple times, our system may have detected a threat to your account. When this happens, we may temporarily lock access to protect your information. Below are reasons why your account might be repeatedly locked:

  • Our system detected a risk to your password.
  • Your IP address is hidden or constantly changing.
  • Sign-in attempts are occurring from different geographic locations in a short period of time.

If your account is affected, be sure to secure your account and update your recovery information.

Your sign-in screen loops or reloads

If you're caught in a loop where the sign-in screen keeps reappearing after you click "Sign in," you'll need to reset the sign-in cookie.

  1. From the sign-in page, click Not you?
  2. Enter your Yahoo ID and password.
  3. Click Sign in.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try these steps and attempt to sign in after each one:

  1. Clear your browser's cookies.
  2. Quit and then restart your browser.
  3. Use a different supported web browser.
  4. Try signing into a different sign-in page, like our primary sign-in page or the Yahoo Mail sign-in page.

Can't sign in after trying the steps above? If you're unable to use the Sign-in Helper to get into your account because your recovery info is wrong or inaccessible, you may not be able to regain access to your account again. You're always welcome to sign up for a new account, but just make sure to keep your new account's recovery info up to date.
