We are aware some users are experiencing issues accessing their Yahoo Mail using third-party mail clients. Removing and re-entering your Yahoo Mail password in the email client should solve this. Read our help article for more information and steps. You may also access Yahoo Mail on the web at mail.yahoo.com or using the Yahoo Mail app for iOS or Android.

View and manage data associated with your account

You can use your privacy controls to see and manage how your information is used with our products. If you go to your privacy controls while you are not signed in, you'll still be able to manage some of your privacy settings.

Access your privacy controls

  1. Go to your privacy controls.
  2. Click a product you use.
  3. In the upper right-hand corner, click Sign in to see your account information.

View or edit your information

View a summary of your information

To see a summary of your information, go to the "View Your Activity" section of your privacy controls. You will be able to choose the products and services that are associated with your account or device.

Click any item to view a summary of your information linked to that product or service. Click Show More to view the full list of products associated with your account or device. If you'd like to see all of your information, instead of a summary, use the "Download My Data" option to download and view your information (instructions below).

Edit your information associated with a product or service

If you see something you'd like to change in the summary of your information, many products have a link in the top right-hand corner of the page to take you to that product. You can then click Edit Account Info at the top of the page to access your account settings. From there, you can make changes.

You can download a copy of your emails, contacts, and more by visiting the 'Get my data' page.

Request a download of your account information

To ask for a download of information about your account, you can visit your privacy controls. It can take up to 30 days for the download to become available. You'll receive an email when the download is ready. Once you have asked for a download for a product (or products), you cannot ask for another download for that product until the original request has been completed or cancelled. To ask for a download, in the "Manage Your Information" section of your privacy controls, go down to "Download and view your data".

  1. Click Download My Data.
  2. Choose some or all products to include in your download.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Enter an email address so we can tell you when the download is available.
  5. Click Request Download.

  Important - If you did not ask for a download but have received an email about a download request, please follow these steps to secure your account.

Download your information or cancel the download request

Download your information:

Once we've let you know that your download is ready, go to your privacy controls and sign in with your account username and password. Please note that the download will only be available for 30 days. After that time, you will need to ask for a new download.

  1. Scroll down to "Your download is available" and click Download your Data.
  2. Click Download, which is next to the download request. A file containing your information will then start to download to your computer or device.

Cancel your download request:

  1. Go down to "Download Request In Progress."
  2. Click Cancel the download request.

Understand and read the information you download

Format of the data file:

Your information will be formatted in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) and might be hard to read at a glance. You can open the file in a plain text editor to view the raw data or you can perform a web search for "JSON parser" to find an app or website that will turn the code into a more user-friendly format. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend any apps or websites.

Manage your privacy controls

Use the "Personalize Your Experience" and the "Manage Your Information" sections of your privacy controls to personalize your online experience and choose what personal information you want to share. You will be able to see your current privacy settings and make any changes.
