TikTok heads to court over potential ban

A US appeals court is holding oral arguments on Monday to hear challenges to a law that would ban the social video app TikTok in the US if China-based parent company ByteDance doesn't divest ownership by January 19th. TikTok argues that the law is unconstitutional, believing that it violates the users' right to free speech under the First Amendment. It has also said that ByteDance will not allow its algorithm to be divested to a US company.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department and Congress have cited national security concerns about a Chinese company having access to Americans' data.

Yahoo Finance Senior Legal Reporter Alexis Keenan breaks down the details of the case and how the upcoming election could weigh on TikTok's future in the US.
