Tavares dismisses Stellantis-Renault merger rumours

In this article:

Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares has dismissed rumours of a merger between Stellantis and Renault, calling it “pure speculation,” according to news agency reports.

Renault’s CEO Luca de Meo declined to comment when asked about the matter at an event in Paris.

Earlier this year there were reports of a possible merger between the two companies in Italian media, with suggestions that the French government (a major Renault stakeholder) was studying merger plans.

This week, Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore reported that discussions of a tie-up have ‘become more persistent’.

Merger talk, speculation and ‘leaks’ could gather momentum as the Paris Motor Show nears (opens October 14), which both Carlos Tavares and Luca de Meo will be attending.

Stellantis recently downgraded its guidance on this year's financials and there have been reports that the company is searching for a new CEO to eventually replace Carlos Tavares.
