Stop & Shop will close eight Mass. stores this year. Several are on the South Shore
Supermarkets in Pembroke and Halifax are among eight Stop & Shop locations in Massachusetts that will close this year, the grocery chain announced Friday, according to WCVB.
The store on Mattakeesett Street in Pembroke will close, but the Stop & Shop on Church Street will remain open, the company said.
The Halifax store is on Plymouth Street.
A Stop & Shop on North Montello Street in Brockton is also scheduled to close.
The other five Massachusetts stores that will close are in Raynham, Newton, Shrewsbury, Worcester and Springfield.
Stop & Shop said employees will be offered other positions within the company.
Stop & Shop also plans to close 24 other locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, the company said.
"Stop & Shop is focused on growing through large, multiyear price investments and a stronger customer value proposition, both in-store and online. This means we’ll be focused on delivering lower everyday prices, as well as even more savings for our customers through strong promotions," Gordon Reid, president of Stop & Shop, said.
Stop & Shop is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize, which is based in the Netherlands.
