Shake Shack announced Monday the launch of a Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich as part of its summer menu lineup available July 1.

The sandwich features a honey-glazed crispy chicken breast topped with habanero mayo sauce and shredded lettuce on a toasted potato bun.

"We love hot honey. It's had a moment over the past couple of years," said Mark Rosati, Shake Shake's culinary director, during an interview with USA TODAY.

Along with the sandwich, the fast food chain is also rolling out Hot Honey Bites, chicken bites featuring a Hot Honey seasoning, as well as Hot Honey Fries dusted with the same seasoning.

Shake Shack's summer menu also includes new shakes and mocktails, or mixed beverages without the alcohol. They include a Lime Agave Margarita and Watermelon Mint Mojito.

The summer menu is available July 1 through October 4.

Shake Shack's new chicken sandwich is the latest in a surge of offerings from restaurants, sparked in 2019 by Popeyes launching its first ever chicken sandwich. Other chains including McDonald's and Burger King have released new chicken sandwiches since then.
