Michigan basketball's Juwan Howard: Big Ten Coach of the Year; Hunter Dickinson honored, too

In his second season as head coach, Juwan Howard led Michigan basketball to its first Big Ten title in seven seasons.

The feat did not pass under the radar.

Howard is the consensus Big Ten Coach of the Year, becoming the first U-M coach to earn the award since John Beilein during the 2013-14 season. He is the fourth coach in program history to receive the award.

Michigan finished the regular season with a 19-3 record and a 14-3 record in conference play. The Wolverines won their first 11 games of the season and 18 of their first 19. Notably, they won five consecutive games after a 23-day layoff.

Howard was far from the only member of the program to earn an award.

Freshman center Hunter Dickinson was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after a season in which he was named Freshman of the Week seven times. Dickinson is averaging a team-high 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks and has recorded four 20-point games.

The Wolverines did not have any consensus All-Big Ten first team picks. Dickinson was a first team selection by the media and a second team selection by the coaches. Isaiah Livers was a consensus selection to the second team. Franz Wagner was a second team selection by the coaches and a third team selection by the media.
