SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — It’s finally (re)opening in San Francisco. Jollibee is planning to open at 934 Market St. in Union Square, a company spokesperson confirmed to KRON4.

Although no opening date is set, Jollibee said it will open sometime in 2025. Construction of the fast food restaurant is “still underway,” the spokesperson added.

Discussions about a potential Jollibee opening in the heart of Union Square have been rumored since at least 2021. However, it wasn’t until now that the Jollibee opening there became official.

The Market Street Jollibee won’t be the first to open in San Francisco. For years, a Jollibee was operating at 200 4th St., which is located near Yerba Buena Gardens and the Moscone Center. That space is currently occupied by an Oasis Grill.

That Jollibee reportedly closed back in 2011, according to multiple outlets. Despite the closure of one Jollibee in the city, the Filipino fast food chain views San Francisco as an important market in its growth.

“The SF community has been so wonderful to the brand,” the Jollibee spokesperson said in a statement. “As the brand expands across North America, SF will continue to be a key growth market in this region.”

USA Today released its 2024 list of the top 10 fast food restaurants in the U.S. that serve fried chicken. Jollibee was crowned as the best fried chicken among all those restaurants listed by the national publication.

The restaurant is known for its signature “Chickenjoy,” which is complemented with gravy.

Jollibee opened its first U.S. restaurant in Daly City in 1998. The fast food chain was founded in 1978 in the Philippines and has since opened more than 1,400 locations worldwide.

The opening of the Jollibee on Market Street was first reported by the San Francisco Business Times.
