China reports 92 new coronavirus cases on Feb 16 vs 102 day earlier

BEIJING, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Mainland China reported 92 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Feb. 16, the country's national health authority said on Thursday, compared with 102 a day earlier.

Of the new cases, 35 were locally transmitted, the National Health Commission said, compared with 46 the previous day.

The new local infections included 16 cases in the city of Suzhou, a major high-tech industry centre in eastern China, and six cases in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen.

The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed cases, stood at 32 compared with 28 a day earlier.

There were no new deaths, leaving the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

As of Feb. 16, mainland China had confirmed 107,288 cases. (Reporting by Ryan Woo Editing by Shri Navaratnam)
