Bassett Medical Centre in Cooperstown, part of Bassett Healthcare Network, has incorporated advanced MRI technology from Philips to improve patient experiences and scanning efficiency.

The new Philips Ambition X MRI and Ambient Experience systems offer speed, quality imaging and reliable performance.

These systems are built to provide an enhanced level of patient comfort and optimise the scanning process for high-quality results.

The Philips Ambition X MRI system, crafted in Latham, New York, incorporates the Philips Ambient Experience, which aims to create a soothing environment for patients through the use of dynamic lighting, mirrors, video and calming sounds.

This approach is intended to give patients more control over their environment, thereby reducing anxiety and improving compliance with the MRI process.

The Philips Ambient Experience has been shown to significantly reduce the need for MRI rescans and the use of patient sedation.

Bassett Healthcare Network Medical Imaging director Lynn Johnson said: “We are very excited to be working with the new Philips Ambition X MR, which provides a greatly enhanced Ambient Experience for our patients and superior image quality.

“The new system is not only manufactured locally – it uses minimal amounts of helium, which is better for the environment. It is a win all around.”

A notable feature of the Ambition X MR system is its magnet, which operates with just seven litres of liquid helium, compared with the traditional 1,500 litres.

This 'helium-free' technology eliminates the need for helium refilling, making it a more sustainable option given that helium is a limited resource with potential for shortages and price volatility.

Bassett Healthcare Network's Division of Medical Imaging provides a comprehensive range of advanced digital imaging systems.
