PwC Transitions 45,000 Employees to Google's Cloud Software Platform

Almost a quarter of PwC's employees, 45,000, will be moving to Google's 'Google for Work' business software unit as its primary business platform, both internally and in its provision for clients.

Purchased by PwC for an undisclosed amount, Google for Work's app suite includes services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Hangouts. According to the agreement, 40,000 PwC employees across the US and 5,000 in Australia are being transitioned to the service.

Further, while PwC is expected to continue to provide clients with software from a range of providers, PwC vice chairman of transformation Mike Burwell has said Google Apps for Work will become the firm's "primary platform", according to WSJ.

"PwC is teaming with Google to offer our joint knowledge and capabilities to clients - giving them one place to go, maximizing experience and assets from both organizations," he explained.

Under the partnership, PwC will provide clients with business insights incorporated into the Google apps. The firm will also help clients transition to Google's cloud-based business system; PwC's Google strategic alliance leader Tom Archer explained:

"Ultimately, our collaboration is about helping clients to embrace their journey to the cloud, and transform their organisations to thrive and maintain relevance in a rapidly changing world."

The partnership with PwC is likely to be a significant one for Google; its business platform has already been adopted by 64% of the Fortune 500, but it is facing stiff competition from rivals. Microsoft recently announced it would be offering limitless cloud storage on OneDrive, its cloud storage system, for all Office 365 subscribers.

Google for Work president Amit Singh said he believed the partnership would allow PwC to "bring the best of Google to work and help companies innovate.

"It's great to see PwC lead by example, accelerating their own journey to the cloud that will lead to enhanced collaboration, greater speed and ultimately, transform their business for the digital era," he added.

"Almost a quarter of PwC employees to use Google software platform" was originally created and published by International Accounting Bulletin, a GlobalData owned brand.
