91% of employers want to know if you’re vaccinated: KPMG

As companies strategize how and when to bring workers back to the office, get ready for your employer to ask if you received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Ninety-one percent of U.S. CEOs plan to ask employees to inform the company once they are fully vaccinated, according to a recent KPMG survey of 140 chief executives. The results of the survey come as daily COVID-19 case counts plateau and the vaccination rate accelerates to about 2.5 million doses administered per day.

As of Wednesday, more than 85 million Americans, about 25% of the population, have received at least one vaccine dose, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data. Meanwhile 46 million Americans, about 14% of the population, are fully vaccinated.

But the acceleration in vaccinations doesn’t mean employers see a "return to normal" immediately. Only 52% of respondents expect their company to return to "a normal course of business" before the end of the year, while 29% say sometime in 2022 and 19% say their business has changed forever.

“I am talking to a lot of CEOs that are still trying to imagine what that future of work looks like,” Paul Knopp, KPMG U.S. chair and CEO, told Yahoo Finance Live. “Our work force wants more flexibility moving forward. They want to be able to work from home more than they did [before the pandemic]... Flexibility is going to be the key word when it comes to how we work in the future.”

Although many workers will want the option of working from home more often, business leaders still see value in office spaces, and see offices playing a role in the future.

“We have proven that we can work very efficiently and effectively from our home environments but I believe that we do need to come together in office spaces in the future to collaborate for learning and development opportunities, for mentoring opportunities, to network. Offices will have a role in the future, no doubt about it,” added Knopp.
