A new clip of Zac Efron promoting Bill Nye's Earth Day special on Facebook Watch has been circulating social media, stirring up rumours that the 33-year-old has undergone plastic surgery.
The brief look at Efron's face immediately raised eyebrows. Fans were quick to point out that the "High School Musical" star's jaw looks significantly wider, and his lips noticeably plumper.

Unfortunately, spectators haven't exactly sugarcoated their feelings toward Efron's new look. Many have cruelly compared the actor to "Shrek" as well as The Weeknd in his music video for "Save Your Tears."
"Zac Efron looks like human Shrek now," someone tweeted.
"Please tell me that's not actually what Zac Efron's face looks like. Is this like a The Weeknd-kinda situation?" another sounded off.
"I'm not gone make fun of Zac Efron because I believe in karma and I know he's been going through mental sh— for years. But he does look like The Weeknd from his Save Your Tears," someone added.

Others simply passed criticism by asking the actor "what happened" to his face.
"What happened to your face and why?" one person tweeted directly at the actor.
"Whoever did Zac Efron’s face, I just wanna talk," wrote another.
"Why did you botch your face?" someone else asked.
"Zac Efron's plastic surgery has genuinely ruined my night. Like, I did not name my dog after you when I was six for you to look like a botched ken doll," another tweeted.

The criticism over the 33-year-old's face was immediately met with resistance from fans who not only think that Efron still looks as handsome as ever, but disagree fundamentally with shaming someone's image.
"Leave Zac Efron alone!" one fan fired back.
"I just came to say that Zac Efron still looks like the most perfect male to exist and he’s aging beautifully," someone else echoed.
Another thoughtfully pointed out that society's beauty standards impact men just as much as women. "This Zac Efron thing is grinding my gears," they wrote. "Beauty standards affect men too! Y’all can’t call yourselves feminists and then sh— on men for gaining a little weight or naturally aging."
"No more Zac Efron slander on my timeline or I'm going to war," another wrote.
"I feel really bad for Zac Efron actually," one fan added. "People were being so awful about his looks when his little wilderness show was on, despite the fact that he literally looked fine. People can’t accept that he’s not going to look 21 for the rest of his life."

While the actor hasn't outright mentioned having insecurities about his face, he has touched on some of the struggles he faced while getting in shape for a film.
In a 2020 interview on "Hot Ones," Efron opened up about the challenges he faced while getting in shape for the movie "Baywatch" and revealed that he never wants to cut weight to that extent again.
“That was actually a really important time to do ‘Baywatch’ because I realized that when I was done with that movie, I don’t ever want to be in that good of shape again. Really. It was so hard,” he confessed.
"You’re working with almost no wiggle room, right? You’ve got things like water under your skin that you’re worrying about, making your six-pack into a four-pack. S–t like that it’s just not. It’s just stupid.”
