Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber stepped out in this summer's most questionable footwear trend

Models like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber may know a thing or two about the latest trends in fashion and beauty, but just because they’re ahead of the curve, that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone else is a fan of what’s currently trending.
Take their latest appearance in L.A. for example, when Bieber was spotted in a pair of square-toed heels embellished with clear plastic details.

For her evening out, Jenner opted for a pair of similar sandals from celebrity-favourite brand Staud.
Known for their unique take on leather accessories, it’s no surprise that their $356 ($265 USD) Audrey Sandals feature this summer’s strangest footwear trend.

Made from luxe crocodile-effect embossed leather, these dressed-up flip-flops feature a low curved heel and a decidedly squared off footbed — a trend that’s been polarizing fashion fans across the globe.
Opinions on the trend are divided, with some fans loving the look of the retro-inspired sandals.

Others are not such fans, despite the fact that it looks like the style won’t be going anywhere as the square-toed sandal gains in popularity.

Labels like Bottega Veneta helped popularize the controversial style with the launch of their $1,255 Stretch Sandals and their $1,786 BV Lido Sandals, and similar designs have quickly trickled down to fast fashion retailers like Zara and Fashion Nova ever since.
Staud also has several versions of the sandals available on their own site, with many marked down as part of the brand’s summer sale.
