Woman Says She Had to Tell Friend Her Devil Costume Was Too ‘Sexy’ for Trick-or-Treating with Kids

"She looked awesome, but I told her that her outfit wasn't really appropriate," a woman wrote in a Reddit post

A young woman is wondering if she was in the wrong for asking her friend to wear a more family-friendly Halloween costume to go trick-or-treating with her younger sister.

In a recent Reddit post, a 21-year-old woman wrote that she was having an issue with her friend, also 21.

The woman wrote that they've been friends since they were kids, but even though they're "very close" they're also "very different."

"She loves going out, being with her friends, going to clubs and getting drunk, and I love being with my family, having chill nights with my friends, or going to brunch," the woman wrote. "That being said, there is absolutely no judgment, she's in college, it's absolutely normal to want to have fun."

But, the woman said that a problem arose while "we were discussing our plans for Halloween."

“She told me she'd love to do something together," the woman wrote. "I was planning on going trick or treating with my younger sister (9f), and she said she had planned on going clubbing with friends."

"We both really wanted to spend Halloween together, so we decided on a compromise: she would come trick or treating with my sister and I, then we'd go clubbing together,” the woman wrote.

As for what her friend planned on wearing, the woman said that she "just told her 'nothing inappropriate, jokingly, with the winking emoji."

But then her friend called her on FaceTime to show off her costume, which looked "kind of like sexy underwear."

"She looked awesome, but I told her that her outfit wasn't really appropriate to trick or treat with children," the woman continued. "I told her that it was amazing for the club, but maybe not to be around children and parents."

However, her friend didn't think there was anything "inappropriate" about her devil costume.

Still, the woman said that she attempted to strike a compromise, asking if her friend "could wear a different outfit to go trick or treating and then change at my house before going to the club."

Instead, she said her friend "got very mad" and said she "was just jealous. because I couldn't pull of this outfit and wasn't as pretty as her."

"I don't necessarily feel like my request was unreasonable but I can understand why it feels controlling to her. I don't know," the woman wrote. "Am I in the wrong here?"

However, many commenters said that they didn't think she did anything wrong.

“Your concerns all revolve around what the (young) kids will be exposed to. There is a time and place for that outfit, but not with 9 year olds,” read one comment.

Meanwhile, other replies took issue with how her friend responded to the woman's comments. "If this is how your 'friends' talk to you, I'd hate to hear what your enemies have to say," read one comment.

Yet another commenter recalled their own experience wearing a Catwoman costume to a family party, saying that the woman did her friend a favor. "The attention I got from suburban dads (and some moms who were angry) was so so awful I wouldn’t wish it on anyone," the commenter wrote.
