#TrendOnTrial: I tried this strange mask the Kardashians swear by — here's what happened

The Kardashian/Jenner clan is pretty good at keeping fans in the loop on top beauty tips and secrets. If you’ve been keeping up with the reality stars as long as we have, you know sisters Kim and Kourtney are known to hop on some pretty strange and under-the-radar bandwagons. Between oil enemas, placenta pills and vampire facials, they’ve also tried this weird face mask that makes them look unrecognizable.
Last year, Kourtney Kardashian, 40, shared a photo of herself and Kim Kardashian, 39, using Hanacure’s The All-In-One Facial, which is often dubbed “the world’s most powerful skincare product.”
“Kim convinced me to use this face mask and I feel stunning,” Kourtney explained on Instagram.
The popular dermatologist-tested mask, powered by a CO2 Octolift compound and essential botanicals, intensely tightens the skin upon drying and leaves a strange discolouration on the face that leaves people unrecognizable. It’s been made famous by the thousands of impressive before and after photos under the hashtag #hanacureeffect. It’s known to increase collagen and reveal a smoother and brighter complexion — after you rinse, that is. Also formulated with Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, a non-invasive alternative to Botox, it magically reduces the appearance of wrinkles after just one use.
The All-In-One Facial - Starter
Shop it: Hanacure, $37 ($29 USD)
“It was incredibly tight as it dried. I looked in the mirror and saw a monster staring back at me! Lol. My face felt amazing afterwards,” says one reviewer, who gave it a five-star rating.
“Incredible product. Used just once and INSTANT difference. Bought a whole set right after. Can’t wait to do it again! Never been so obsessed with a product in my life,” adds another reviewer.
Designed for one application, each order includes a lifting serum, a gelling solution and a brush for a steep price of $29 USD. But as pricey as this multi-action treatment mask can be, 93 per cent of users would recommend it to friends and family, while 90 per cent of users agree that it improves the skin’s overall appearance. So, of course, I had to try it out myself.
The All-In-On Facial Set came in a small white box with the two-step system and a brush stored inside. As per the instructions, I gently opened its carefully-sealed ampule and poured the lifting serum into the gelling solution pack. The mixed compound is said to absorb impurities, toxins and other contaminants in your skin and pores. After shaking the contents vigorously for 20 seconds, I used the brush to evenly apply the gel-like mixture to my face and neck.
Within two minutes, I felt an intense tightening sensation across my neck. It almost felt like Scotch Tape being wrapped around my neck as it dried — not the most comfortable feeling, but bearable. The “resolidification process” creates a strong binding force. Within 10 minutes, I felt the tightening along my chin and hairline. I had hoped for the mask to dry evenly across my face to give me a Kourtney Kardashian-esque mirror selfie, instead it quickly dried along the outer edges of my face, leaving my cheeks wet and me looking very, well... Hunchback of Notre Dame.
And as much as I wanted to laugh out loud at my strange appearance (don’t worry, I was laughing on the inside), the tightening of the mask did not allow for much movement. The mask was so tight that there was absolutely no way I could make any facial movements. Wanting to speed things up, I fanned my face with the instruction pamphlet, which only intensified the tightening sensation. The mask eventually got so tight that it started to lift my upper lip!
Within about 30 minutes, the mask was completely dry. I washed my face and removed all residue with warm water. The tightening sensation remained, although it was subtle. I slowly felt the blood starting to circulate in my cheeks and forehead. While I didn’t see much of a difference in tone and complexion (I have a few dark marks from acne), the mask left my skin feeling super smooth and soft — an ideal canvas for applying makeup.
The instruction pamphlet suggests using the All-In-On Facial once a week for optimal results.
Would I recommend it? I’d say it all depends on your skincare needs. This mask is perfect for those with stubborn fine lines and wrinkles. The results are practically instantaneous and leave your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated. While my face felt clean of dirt and oil, I did find that it left it a little dry. Shortly after using it, I had to hydrate my skin with a gel moisturizer.
For those who, like me, want to tackle tone and discolouration, this may not be the mask for you. While it’s one heck of an experience, I strongly suggest trying Ole Henriksen’s Phat Glow Facial Mask ($66) before trying this one.
