We Want To Hear About Your Most Jaw-Dropping Encounters With Pretty Privilege
I recently came across a Reddit thread titled, How do you know that you’re attractive?
Most of the answers pointed to the ways in which people who are considered conventionally attractive are given special treatment.
For example, u/GeneralZaroff1 wrote: "People will tell you [you're pretty]—all the time. A friend of mine is model-level attractive, and people have zero problems being direct with compliments. Like cashiers and strangers. One time we were chatting, and someone CROSSED THE STREET to compliment her. It’s like a different existence."
That last part, about it being a "different existence," is very real and has been well-documented. For example, many studies have shown that attractiveness can lead to better treatment in the workplace and another study examined the ways in which biases favoring attractive people happen on a chemical level.
Of course, beauty is subjective. Yet, it does play a big role in how people are treated. So, I want to hear from YOU about the moments you've experienced or witnessed pretty privilege.
For example, were you shopping at a store and noticed someone stunning received a secret discount?
Or did you objectively fail your driving test, but the person giving you the exam told you it wasn't a big deal and passed you and you sense it was because they found you attractive?
Did you work in a restaurant, and your coworker who always mixed up people's orders still got the best tips because everyone considered them good-looking?
Whatever your story, we want to hear about it!
