Canadian influencer Spencer Barbosa shares empowering message about embracing failure
The self-love advocate tells fans it's more embarrassing to stop trying in life.
Spencer Barbosa is urging her fans to embrace their failures.
The Canadian content creator shared a motivational Instagram Reel on Tuesday, where she candidly opened up about gracefully accepting her mistakes.
In the clip, Barbosa begins saying, "I don't care if I fail. I don't care how many times I fail. I don't care if it's embarrassing. I don't care if people are laughing at me. I don't care if I look cringey."
The self-love advocate admitted that while she used to be afraid of failing at things, she realized the consequences of not trying at all are much worse.
"I used to be so scared of failing. I used to be so scared of people making fun of me for doing what I love. You want to know what's more embarrassing than failing? Stop trying," she said. "When you stop trying, that's embarrassing. When you stop getting up. Imagine if you were learning how to walk, but you kept falling and you kept crawling, and all you do the rest of your life is crawl because you're so scared to try walking again."
In the caption, the influencer shared a call to action, urging her followers to comment their advice for their younger selves.
"I love this so much," one Instagram user commented. "I would tell my younger self to stop worrying what people think of her as well. Fear of embarrassment has held me back from so much in life!"
"I needed to hear this. Thanks, Spencer," a fan added.
"I love this. One piece of advice I'd give to my younger self is the importance of advocating for yourself," another shared.
"You are the best! Needed this today!" someone else chimed in.
In an August interview with Yahoo Canada, Barbosa reflected on body neutrality and how being at peace with her body image has helped her foster self-love.
"You may hate the cellulite on your legs, but just think of how your legs make you walk. You may hate your arm hair, but your arms can lift things up and hug your family and friends," she explained.
"When you re-frame these concepts, it can help you accept your body and hopefully be more grateful."
Barbosa highlighted that, now more than ever, we are subjected to highly curated images of influencers and celebrities on a regular basis, and the importance of not comparing ourselves or holding ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards.
"Especially as girls, we think that other women are a competition when they're not," Barbosa claimed. "Don't compare. We are completely different people with different journeys and we should celebrate everyone's different path.
"I think self-love is choosing to love yourself and showing up on days when it's really hard. It's saying nice things to yourself and celebrating your successes, no matter how small they might feel. It's accepting who you are and the things you bring to the world."
