Smartfood Just Brought Back This Limited-Edition Flavor, and It Tastes Exactly Like My Favorite Chip
Popcorn and Doritos are, in my opinion, arguably two of the best snack foods to exist — ever. In an ingenious move, Smartfood has decided to combine them into one boldly flavored bag. Partnering with Flavor Flav, king of flavor himself, the brand recently launched Doritos Nacho Cheese popcorn (along with four other flavors: White Cheddar, Movie Theater Butter, Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn, and Flamin’ Hot White Cheddar.)
Curious to see if the popcorn would truly capture the flavor of Doritos (or just their essence), I reached out to the Smartfood team to snag a bag and then sampled it for myself. Of course I asked some of The Kitchn staff to join in, and they happily agreed. Here’s what we thought.
What You Should Know About Smartfood Doritos Nacho Cheese Flavored Popcorn
This dynamic flavor duo might sound a little familiar. Smartfood Doritos Nacho Cheese Flavored Popcorn originally launched in January 2022, although the release was limited. Two years later, it’s back and here for the long haul.
The popcorn is generously dusted with that same cheesy, finger-licking seasoning that coats every inch of the classic nacho cheese-flavored Doritos. While we don’t know all the secrets to the proprietary seasoning blend, the ingredient list includes cheddar and Romano cheese; whey; onion, tomato, and garlic powders; buttermilk; red and green bell pepper; paprika; and salt. (No artificial flavors or colorings are used.)

My Honest Review of Smartfood Doritos Nacho Cheese Flavored Popcorn
As I opened the bag in the office kitchen, it wasn’t long before a crowd formed. (People were eager to get a taste.)
The popcorn has the same vibrant orange color as Nacho Cheese Doritos, complete with the little red and green flecks you’d find on the chips. I grabbed a few kernels, tossed them into my mouth, and was happy to discover they tasted just like Doritos! They have the same nacho cheesiness you’d expect from the OG, but with a light airiness from the popcorn.
It was a hit among our staff, too. Both Tamieka, editorial assistant, and Brian, director of people operations, said they’d totally buy it again (and again). “It tastes like cheddar popcorn but better,” adds Brian. “I think Doritos needs to just sell the flavored powder. I’d put it on everything.”
Chanel, director of product design and UX, also called the flavor “spot-on,” adding “I love it in popcorn form, instead of a tortilla chip!”
