As A Skims Loyalist, This Is The Piece I Buy Time And Time Again
When it comes to shopping Black Friday I've developed a cautious approach that means I concentrate my attention to only make the most oof savings on brands I already know and love. My number one port of call? The Skims Black Friday sale, of course.

Founded by Kim Kardashian and Jens Grede in 2019, Skims' aim was to revolutionise the shapewear market with pieces that celebrate curves with 'solutions for every body.' It initiated a celebration of a form fashion has often ignored, not least chastised, with pieces that were less about compression and more about smoothing, to allow clothing to sit immaculately on top. I soon found it worked and from that initial wearing it has long been the secret (well, it doesn't take much more than a Google of my name and Skims to know that's not true, so let's say hidden) backbone of all that I wear.
As someone who had long been wearing shapewear, I quickly fell head-first into the Skims hype. And I'm far from alone. Now, with permanent spaces in stores like Selfridges and available at Net-a-Porter and Harrods, with an ever-expanding arsenal that extends way beyond 'control pants' and collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Swarovski in the bag, Skims is now reportedly worth $4 billion .
Lucky for me and my millions of peers that love it year-round, Skims does Black Friday very well, with great discounts to be had from across its now expansive collections. Shapewear might have been its foundation but its loungewear, pyjamas and swimwear have also become cult and more than warranting a place on your Black Friday wishlist.
What To Shop From The Skims Black Friday Sale
Besides the sell-out bras, as sadly they don't sell them in my size just yet (come on, Kim!), I've more or less tried it all, including swimwear. And for much as nothing has ever let me down and has always done the job intended, time and time again I return to one thing: The Mid-Thigh Bodysuit.
At first glance, it might seem intimidating. Do you really want to wear that under your clothes, Naomi? Yes, I really do. And have done ever since I first writhed into one.
I've worn it under second-skin fit dresses, and bodysuits with A-line skirts and have found it particularly helpful under high-neck dresses that are a great fit at the waist but aren't hospitable to my large bust. It means I can go without a bra (but more often than not I do wear one with it) and opt for a size that flatters my midsection rather than the annoyingly familiar bagginess that those of us with a significant bust-to-waist ratio have simply had to come to terms with in the past. Owing to the fact it extends from the shoulder to just above the knee, it works to flatter the whole figure and I'm never having to readjust it. Plus, its built-in shorts keep any summertime chafe at bay. Relief.
But, what you really need to know about The Mid-Thigh Bodysuit is just how comfortable it is. Many, many times I have been concerned that my control pants are so tight that after about four hours of wearing them, I become genuinely concerned that blood is no longer flowing toward my pelvis. It hurts. I feel sick. I want to go home. In this, that's never happened. I've danced all night. I've sat through hours of wedding speeches. Walked miles and even took a flight in one (I might not do that again as loo visits were made a little complicated.) Ah, loo visits. You might have wondered when we'd get there. Skims has the option of choosing yours with or without a hole. Do what you wish but I tend not to use it and take it all off when the moment comes.
Pieces like this always prove challenging when it comes to selecting the correct size. Having been the proud owner of about six over the course of the last four years, I've learnt what's best. When it comes to choosing yours, you want to size down and even size down again further. It ranges from XXS to XXXXL and is available in nine shades intended to be neutral and a classic black.
Never did I think that one of my most worn, wardrobe-favourites would be a nude, knee-length bodysuit, but here we are. The Skims Mid-Thigh Bodysuit is a must-have. It's not about shrinking the form, but making you feel more confident in the pieces you do have or want to wear. I'm grateful for it and simply cannot gatekeep.

Well, first things first, this sale is not called the Black Friday sale as it goes by biannual sale instead. Skims only discounts its items twice a year so you need to be fast to add to basket when it comes to getting what you want now. But on the plus side, there are plenty of great savings to be had across all categories with even bestsellers up for sale with discounts, too.
