‘She's just like me!': Young girl receives doll with prosthetic leg
For Emma Fletcher Bennett, having a prosthetic leg was always just another part of growing up. Like many other girls her age, she loves to wear skirts and play with other kids. But, when her parents surprised her with a doll that had been outfitted to look just like her – prosthetic leg included – she was literally brought to tears.
Mom Courtney Fletcher Bennett posted a video of her reaction on Facebook.
In the video you can see Fletcher Bennett’s younger sister walking through the house with a box. Handing it to her big sister, she starts reading a letter that has been attached, quickly realizing what’s inside the box. Ripping open the box, she immediately begins to cry, clutching the doll to her chest and marveling at it’s prosthetic leg.
“It’s got a leg like me!”
Her mom then comes over and reads the letter aloud for her.
“Mommy and daddy has this sent to a company, A Step Ahead Prosthetics, so they said after she arrived she was given a room to stay while her new leg was being made. She was fitted with a leg in her favourite colour, pink, and started walking on it right away. After a few weeks of training to walk and run in her new prosthetic, she is ready to go home and live her life without limitations with you,” she explains.
Looking at the camera through tears, the young girls says, “thank you for making a doll like me.”

Since being posted on Wednesday, the video has been shared more than 100,000 times, with many heartfelt comments pouring in.
“That is the sweetest!” remarked one commenter, while another said, “Brought tears to my eyes!! How wonderful for her!”
The doll was an American Girl doll, which was sent to New York-based A Step Ahead Prosthetics to be upgraded with the prosthetic leg.
