Reese Witherspoon is always getting creative in the kitchen, from her famous cornbread chili pie recipe to her obsession with crafty Mason jar drinks. She recently shared another fun tip with her followers that involves repurposing a classic fall ingredient.

“Just a lil Pumpkin bouquet for your timeline,” Witherspoon said in a caption of her Instagram photo. In the post, the Legally Blonde actress shared a pumpkin with the top carved and the flesh scooped out and filled with a stunning bouquet of flowers.

Her fans raced to the comments, obsessing over this simple yet elegant hack. One person commented on the post, saying, “What a happy vase.” Another user called out, “Brilliant!! So gorgeous.”

An estimated 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins end up in landfills every year. Finding brilliant ways to repurpose them, like this vase hack, can help divert waste. Plus, it’s so adorable; it’s an excellent way to upgrade your holiday spread when hosting guests.

If you’ve never carved a pumpkin before, The Kitchn has a few tips to help you get started:

  • Carve a pumpkin sitting down so that you have more control over your sharp tools.

  • Use a circular cookie cutter to cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin to place your flowers inside.

  • Use an electric hand mixer to loosen up all the pumpkin flesh to make it easier to scoop and toss out.

Once you create your pumpkin vase, you can get creative by filling it with stunning flower bouquets. Or you can step outside the box (especially if you’re hosting a party) and stuff it with a donut, cookie, fruit, or salami arrangement.
