Popeyes Is Adding an All-New Chicken Sandwich to Its Menu

The menu is heating up.

Most fast food lovers—especially those with any kind of social media presence—remember the beginning of the Chicken Sandwich Wars. Before August 2019, you couldn’t even order a chicken sandwich at a Popeyes restaurant. Now, it’s consistently viewed as one of the best fast food chicken sandwiches on the market—including in our own taste test.

Popeyes has recreated the magic of its iconic fried chicken sandwich by releasing new flavors—like the Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich and the Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich. However, there’s only been one other Popeyes launch that’s garnered the same attention as the OG sandwich: the wings.

In 2023, Popeyes released Sweet ‘N Spicy Wings that were only available for a limited time during football season. Customers loved them so much that the chicken chain added the sweet-and-spicy wings—plus four additional flavors—to its permanent menu earlier this year.

Now, for the first time, Popeyes is combining one of its most popular wing flavors with the chicken sandwich.

Popeyes Introduces the New Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich

In honor of spooky season, Popeyes is introducing its new Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich for a limited time.

Starting Oct. 7, customers can try the new Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich, which starts with the same buttermilk-battered fried chicken breast and barrel-cured pickles on a brioche bun, but with the addition of the chain's ghost pepper sauce. The chili-infused sauce has a bold, yet balanced heat, which Popeyes says makes the sandwich “scary good, but not scary spicy.”

In addition to the new sandwich, Popeyes is adding two seasonal beverages to the menu. The Apple Cranberry Tea and Apple Cranberry Lemonade feature sweet apple, tart cranberry, and spiced flavors to help cool your mouth after the Ghost Pepper sandwich. All the new menu items will be available for a limited time starting Oct. 7 for ordering in restaurants or on the Popeyes app.

Additionally, now through Oct. 31, if you order a Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich—or any menu item over $5—you can receive a free Chocolate Chip Biscuit. Simply ask for the “Chick or Treat” promo at checkout or add the deal to your order via the “Offers” section in the Popeyes app.

Ghost pepper flavors seem to be extra popular this Halloween season—Carl’s Jr. recently released its Ghost Burger, too. We didn’t know Caspar the Friendly Ghost, Beetlejuice, and Slimer were this into spicy foods, but we’re happy with the new offerings.
