"We've Been Married For 25 Years": People Are Sharing The Most Random Way They Fell For Someone, And It's Equal Parts Hilarious And Heartwarming

If you, like me, love a good romantic comedy, then surely you've fantasized about having a real-life meet-cute of your own.

FYI, a meet-cute is the part of a love story when the couple meet for the first time in a quirky way, like when Hugh Grant spills orange juice on Julia Roberts in Notting Hill.

Recently, people on Reddit shared the weirdest way they've ever met a date or partner, and people shared so many cute, funny, and bizarre stories that made me laugh and warmed my cold, cynical heart. Here are some of the best stories:

."I was at a festival, and my boyfriend was at a bar with his friends. We ended up meeting in the hospital because I broke my arm and he broke his leg."

."I met my boyfriend because he used to deliver me pizzas. One day, he told me he was fascinated with my last name (a pretty rare name) cause he used to be friends with a guy with the same last name. Turns out that guy is my brother. Turns out my mom has loads of pics of my bf and my brother playing together as toddlers. Bf moved away when he was 12, I moved to the same place when I was 21. Been together for almost two years now."

."I nearly ran him over in a 7-ELEVEN parking lot."

."We met in a grocery store fighting over the last avocado!"

."I was rollerblading, and this guy was jogging. He kept up with me for over 3 miles just to talk and get to know me. I was so impressed that I said yes when he asked me for a date."

."Husband and I met while working at a retail location when we watched a shoplifter get tased."

."My ex and I met while we were on dates with different people. She was obviously not into the guy she was with (very much a 'works in finance' type of guy who seemed super intense), and I didn’t have much chemistry with my date. Her guy got up to go to the bathroom, and as I was at the bar ordering another round for my date. She let out a loooooong sigh and rubbed her temples. I asked, 'Not having fun either?' She replied, 'No, and I feel like you could do way better.' We quietly exchanged Instagram handles and met up at the same place a week later. We dated for four years and parted amicably. Still hold her in high regard, we just didn’t end up having the same long term goals/ideas for our future."

."I was 16, looking out my bedroom window, and there was a girl in our backyard stealing blackberries from our bush. I ran down the stairs, intending to angrily confront her, but as I stepped outside, I realized she was really cute. So, instead of yelling at her, I asked her if she wanted me to get another bag and maybe I would help her. She was horrified, of course, but I was super-friendly. We chatted and ended up going out on a few dates. It was never going to last because I don’t want a long-term relationship with a thief, haha."

."Two of my fraternity brothers were fighting (physically) over a girl. Most of the other guys were trying to pull them apart, and nobody was making sure she was okay. I took her for a walk while they cooled off. We dated for 18 months, then she cheated on me."

."Named my router 'one broke guy' after I saw my neighbor had one named 'two broke chicks,' and then we met in the elevator."

."At a cafe in Lisbon, she was the barista. She was deaf, and the manager would pass on notes on what the customers ordered. I got a long black and passed a note to her asking if she'd be free to go out. She smiled and did the wavy hand, which meant maybe. I did a crash course in sign language and came back in two days. We've been married for 25 years."

."I met someone at a dog park when my dog ran off and crashed into theirs! We ended up chatting while chasing them."

."My ex-girlfriend and I were put on a chairlift together when skiing, and we got stuck halfway way up the mountain for about 20 minutes or so. By the time we got to the top, we decided to meet up for drinks that night."

."I watched her make a little girl cry and was like, 'She’s got some good points.' Guess who was doing the crying later."

."I met a guy while walking across train tracks at midnight. We were each walking to opposite platforms. I was hysterically drunk-crying after a brutal breakup. He stopped in the middle of the tracks to give me a hug. I gave him my number, and we went to our platforms. As his train was approaching, he tried to call me, but apparently, I had just rambled off random numbers. He missed his train to come back and get the correct number. We only dated for a little while, but we’re still really good friends!"

."I hit her in the face with my knee on a water slide."

."I met my first girlfriend while donating blood. We were the only two in the recovery room afterward and started chatting. I was instantly smitten and then found out we had a ton of the same friends, and I also knew her aunt, uncle, and oma [grandmother]."

."Oh, I got this: I was in my Beastie Boys era, so chain on the pants, check. Said chain then got stuck in a verandah between two floor boards. It happened while I was seated, so I couldn't even stand to rip myself free. I had to flag down a random guy who thought it was hilarious, freed me, and dated me after."

."We met when I accidentally sent a text meant for my mom to a complete stranger. Instead of being weirded out by my grocery list, they replied with better snack suggestions... and that’s how we ended up on our first date!"

."We met in the same Tilt A Whirl cab. She threw up on me. It's been bliss since."

."Was swiping on Tinder when a girl walking behind me noticed it and started helping me choose which ones to swipe yes to. Ended up choosing her instead."

u/itzterra95

."I met someone I dated at a funeral, of all places. I was there to support a friend who had lost a family member, and she was a mutual friend of the deceased. It started awkwardly because we were both sitting alone and ended up striking up a conversation about the service. We found ourselves laughing about how uncomfortable the situation was and just bonded over our shared awkwardness. After the funeral, we exchanged numbers, and a week later went out for coffee. It felt surreal even telling people how we met, but it turned out to be a great relationship for a year!"

."Once, I sat next to a nervous flyer and held her hand as we went through turbulence. A few days later I literally almost walked right into her on the sidewalk. Instant recognition and we both started laughing. I just blurted out, 'Well, at this point, it would just be ridiculous if I didn’t buy you a drink.' So we connected for a little while, and it was nice."

."Someone was impersonating me (badly) on Tinder. Their target was suspicious and reached out in person."

.And finally, "My friend and his girlfriend wanted a double date, so they set up a blind date. The guy canceled, so I was a last-minute sub-in. And unknown to me at the time, the girl on this blind date also canceled and was replaced. When I went to pick her up, we were both expecting to meet somebody else. Some hilarity ensured. Yadda yadda. 45th anniversary is coming up in a few weeks."

Have you ever met a date in a really strange way? Or, if you were making one of these stories into a rom-com, who would you cast? Tell me everything in the comments. I'll go first: I choose #17 as my directorial debut, and both roles will be played by Aubrey Plaza.
