Oscars 2024: 52% of Yahoo Canada readers thought this was the worst dressed star on the Academy Awards red carpet
The votes are in, and Yahoo Canada readers have declared a fashion winner — and loser — from the 2024 Oscars.
The 2024 Oscars may technically be over, but there's still one more winner — and loser — who needs to be declared: the best and worst dressed.
After hours of red carpet coverage, our team of editors whittled down the standout looks of the night to the top five best and worst fashion moments from the 96th Academy Awards. We asked Yahoo Canada readers to vote for which look deserves a place in the Oscars fashion history and which will receive meme-worthy treatment online.
The people have spoken and the two stars earning the title of best and worst dressed won by a landslide.
BEST DRESSED: Zendaya in Armani Privé
Forty-eight per cent of Yahoo Canada readers dubbed Zendaya's one-shoulder Armani Privé gown the best dressed of the night. The look featured an exposed corset featuring gunmetal paillettes and silver embroidered palm tree motif on feminine pink silk.
Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach accessorized the look with statement-making pink gold drop earrings that featured pink tourmaline, diamonds, morganite and mandarin garnets, as well as a matching cuff and ring by Bulgari.
The "Dune 2" star's dress was the perfect blend of futuristic and old Hollywood glamour, and a look our readers couldn't get enough of.
RUNNER-UP: America Ferrera in Atelier Versace
While most of us expected Margot Robbie to be the "Barbie" star in pink, it was Ferrera who brought the Barbiecore glamour to the Oscars red carpet. The Best Supporting Actress nominee earned 20 per cent of Yahoo Canada votes for her custom Versace gown, making her the runner-up for best dressed of the night.
"We thought we'd save the pink for last," Ferrera's stylist, Karla Welch, said of the look on Instagram.
According to E! host Zanna Rossi, it took Atelier Versace 400 hours to create Ferrera's gown and the brand created 10 different pink chainmails to find the perfect shade.
WORST DRESSED: Ariana Grande in Giambattista Valli
Grande and her team have taken a page out of the Margot Robbie and Andrew Mukamal playbook of method dressing to promote the singer's role as Glinda in "Wicked." The petite star got lost in the billowing fabric of her Giambattista Valli gown, and looked almost unrecognizable with her icy blonde hair.
Grande's Oscar moment included a pink diamond pendant and matching earrings from Tiffany & Co., which although striking, did little to distract from the yards of fabric that trailed behind the singer.
Although her Oscars appearance was her first red carpet in four years, Grande's look earned 52 per cent of reader votes, making it the clear choice for worst dressed of the night.
RUNNER-UP: Melissa McCarthy in Christian Siriano
Sometimes bad clothes happen to funny people. McCarthy's pink and red Christian Siriano gown was an unfortunate red carpet moment that earned 23 per cent of Yahoo Canada reader votes for worst dressed.
McCarthy was on-hand to present the award for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay alongside Octavia Spencer. Her confusing look was distracting on stage, thanks to a bizarre pink bolero jacket that hid the star's figure and her bouffant hairstyle that did little to save her overall look.
