Meghan Markle's Just Hinted at Her Due Date in Birkenhead

It's official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together. After weeks of rumors and speculation, Kensington Palace publicly confirmed the happy news with a post on Twitter on October 15, before the couple kicked off their royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," reads the announcement.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."

At this point, it's unclear exactly when the newest royal baby will arrive, but during her visit to Birkenhead with Prince Harry in January, Meghan reportedly told one member of the crowd that she is six month pregnant and another woman that her due date is around April.

Previously, the Palace has confirmed that Meghan's due date is sometime in the spring of 2019. Shortly after the announcement, several royal correspondents pinpointed the date closer April, given that Meghan had already had her 12-week scan at the time of the announcement, but on their podcast "On Heir," reporters Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie suggested the child might arrive in March.

"When everyone was saying at the time of the pregnancy announcement that she was three months..." Scobie started, before Andrews jumped in.

"We understand that she was around 14/15 weeks, and so, we think that the baby is due in early April," she said before further guessing. "I think maybe March, I think the baby might be born in March," she said.

But then later, Andrews hedged, "Babies can come whenever they want."

Meghan also weighed in on Christmas. According to photographer Karen Anvil, Meghan said "We’re nearly there" when asked if she was excited about the baby.

And according to Katie Nicholl, the Duchess plans to work well into her pregnancy. Per a recent story in Vanity Fair, "Meghan has told aides she wants to work as close to her due date next spring as possible." The Duchess also recently announced that she is to become patron of four new organizations, and according to the Sunday Times, she has plans to visit each of them before going on maternity leave.

Meghan and Harry have been very open about wanting to start a family together. In an interview with the BBC shortly after the couple announced their engagement, Harry said they wanted to have children. "Not yet, no, but I think eventually, one step at a time, and we'll start a family in the near future,” he said.

And in March of 2018, Meghan joked about wanting to have kids while in Belfast, Northern Ireland. While greeting an entrepreneur who makes baby products, Markle quipped “I’m sure at some point we’ll need the whole thing.”

Following the pregnancy announcement Meghan and Harry's families have also shared their excitement about the news.

Members of the royal family are reportedly "delighted," and Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland is "very happy."
