If there were a single, go-to summer clothing item that could be defined by ease, comfort and elegance, it would be the maxi dress. A versatile, one piece garment that offers as much breathability as a mini skirt?! What more could you ask for?
As the season’s temperatures begin to climb up and over 30 degrees, it seems that maxi dresses carried by major retailers are clearing out quicker than you can say, “cannonball!” At the time I searched for All in Favour’s Knit Maxi Dress on Nordstrom’s website, 994 other shoppers were viewing it. If that doesn’t say something about its level of popularity, then I don’t know what does.
According to this ankle-grazing shift’s track record, its worthy of a repurchase. In order to verify those claims, I took a deep dive into the specifics. To buy, or not to buy? Scroll to find out.
All In Favour Knit Maxi Dress
SHOP IT: Nordstrom, $39
The details
Let’s start with the most basic: on top, ultra-skinny adjustable straps make adjusting the fit of this maxi dress hassle-free. An elastic waistband and softly-bloused bodice gives way to a flow-y, floor-length skirt.
Available in sizes extra small to extra extra large and in classic black and navy-coloured fabrics, the Knit Maxi Dress comes in a palm leaf and floral print as well. At 25 per cent off, it rings in at just under $39 and qualifies for free shipping.
Buyer’s take
From nearly every purchasers’ standpoint, All in Favour’s highly rated design is worth the money — two times over.
“This is actually the second time I’ve bought this dress!” said one reviewer. “It’s so comfy and is definitely a go-to for me during the summertime.”
Despite the fact that Nordstrom specifies a larger fit, many of the 2,000 reviews mention that the dress is true to size or runs longer than expected.
“This slip on dress is so comfortable. I bought one pattern which was tie-dye and today I bought the black one,” another five star reviewer said. “Great price and a great look. Added length on this dress too.”
The only deal-breaker for some is that the Knit Maxi Dress is dry clean only, probably due to its blend of rayon and spandex material. However, some reviewers suggest machine-washing and hanging it out to dry in order to avoid shrinkage.
Take this comment for example: “Extremely comfortable material and beautiful blue colour. Length is great with a two-inch wedge and I am 5’2”. Washable - hang to dry so it doesn’t fade and shrink! Five stars.”
The verdict
One of the only caveats to online shopping is not knowing how a clothing item will truly fit, no matter how many details or reviews are published.
That said, with close to an overall five star rating, All in Favour’s Knit Maxi Dress looks and sounds promising. And its under $50 price tag is all the more convincing. So, go ahead and hit that Add to Cart button before it’s too late.
