Our Krispie Turkey Is An Edible Masterpiece

Ingredients

  • 1 c.

    (2 sticks) unsalted butter, divided

  • 2

    (10-0z.) bags mini marshmallows

  • 1

    (12-oz.) box Rice Krispies cereal

  • Cooking spray

  • 1/2 c.

    (100 g.) granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp.

    ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling

  • Candy of your choice, for filling

Equipment Needed

  • Gloves, a 16-oz. lightweight plastic cup (such as Solo), turkey frills

Directions

  1. In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt 1/2 c. butter. Stir in marshmallows until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in Rice Krispies.

  2. Put on gloves and spray palms with cooking spray. Scoop out about 2 c. Rice Krispies mixture and place on a large platter. Flatten into roughly the shape of the bottom of a turkey. This will be your turkey’s base.

  3. Coat outside of plastic cup with cooking spray. Place on base of turkey so opening of cup is where opening of turkey cavity would be.

  4. Working quickly, use about 4 c. Rice Krispies mixture to form body of turkey around cup. (You don’t need to measure exactly because time is of the essence; just be sure to reserve enough Rice Krispies mixture for legs and wings.) Leave open end of cup outside the turkey so it can be removed later.

  5. Use more Rice Krispies mixture to form 2 football-shaped pieces as the thighs (about 3/4 c. each). Press into body of turkey to adhere. Use more Rice Krispies mixture to form 2 drumsticks (about 1/2 c. each). Place drumsticks on top of thighs and press to secure.

  6. Use remaining Rice Krispies mixture to form 4 small, oblong football shapes to be the wings. Secure to sides of turkey. Refrigerate until set, about 20 minutes.

  7. Meanwhile, in a small pot over medium-low heat, melt remaining ½ c. butter. Add sugar and cinnamon and cook, stirring frequently, until sugar is dissolved, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat. Gently brush over turkey to create a golden brown sheen. Sprinkle with more cinnamon

  8. Carefully remove cup from turkey’s cavity and fill with candy. Place turkey frills on drumsticks, securing with a toothpick.
