I tested Knix's anti-chafing shorts — did my thick thighs survive? Here's my honest review
Knix Thigh Saver review: Why I love these anti-chafing short.
If there’s one thing that dictates how I dress in the morning, it’s chub rub. I wear a size size 16-18 and I have thick thighs. That statement seems simple enough until you think about all the unique challenges thick thighs pose when making fashion choices. Shorts never have a long enough inseam, and skirts are simply out of the question without anti-chafing shorts.

In an effort to wear the skirts and dresses I fantasize about wearing, I'm on a journey to find the best thigh-protecting shorts. In order for an anti-chafing short to win my heart it needs to accomplish three things: stay in place while preventing chub rub, be comfortable even if you sweat or bloat, and be undetectable under tight dresses and silky skirts.
I tested five XXL styles of Knix Thigh Saver shorts to see if they were up to the challenge of keeping my thick thighs chafe-free — here are the results.
I’ve been dabbling in dresses that hug my body lately, and though I’m typically anti-shapewear, there are days when I feel like I could use the extra support. Which is why I’m so glad I found the Knix Contour Thigh Savers! They’re like the best of both worlds—the comfortable, bloat-friendly, anti-chafe shorts I love with just a little extra shaping.
Of all the Knix shorts I tried, these are the most true to size. I feel like I could size down in every other pair, but the snug fit of the XXL helps contour and shape while not feeling too restrictive. Other shoppers shared my feelings with one reviewing, “ Great support without being too tight. It was comfortable enough to wear all day.”
- Contours comfortably
- Lightweight
- Thighs roll up
If you want your thighs to literally glide past each other while you walk, you’ve come to the right place. These are second place (first place is next on the list) for the softest anti-chafing shorts I have ever tried. Their soft nylon/lycra fabric is not only great for protecting your inner thigh, but it also prevents your skirts and dresses from clinging to them. Unlike some of the other shorts I tried, these serve one purpose and one purpose only—saving your thighs from chub rub.
These shorts also come in seven colours and patterns, matching a wide range of skin tones; full disclosure: I already have the leopard print version in my cart. For shorter dresses and skirts there is also a 4” inseam version available.
Fit Tip: This is the only pair I wished I sized down in, after one wash I found they were a little loose and slid down my waist as I walked.
- Extremely soft
- Moisture reducing
- Seamless
- Waist rolls down
- Thighs roll up
When I said there was even a softer pair of shorts on this list, these are the ones I was talking about. They are called Luxe for a reason: the modal fabric feels so soft against my skin. I especially love this pair’s waistband—it not only holds the shorts in place but gives the look of loungewear or lingerie. My one critique of this style is that the shorts tend to ride up my thighs if I wear them for more than a few hours.
This super soft fabric is only offered in a 6” inseam and it comes in both black and Knix’s “Savanna” print. I found these shorts to both be true to the size chart and I was very comfortable in an XXL.
- Extremely soft
- Lightweight
- Invisible under clothing
- Thighs roll up
My high heel and “hard pants” days are behind me, which means items that aren’t extremely comfortable rarely ever get pulled out of my closet. Since comfort is my top priority when it comes to fashion, I don’t think these lace shorts will be on heavy rotation.
All that said, I do love the way they look, especially when peeking out under a shorter dress. If I were going to an event that didn’t require a lot of walking, these shorts would suffice, but I found the lace irritating on my inner thighs the more I wore them. I’m happy to have this pair of shorts in my arsenal in my battle against chub rub even if they only see the light of day on special occasions.
- Looks good under short skirts
- High waist stays in place
- Lace is irritating
- Thighs roll up
If preventing thigh chafe is your only goal, this pair is the best of the best. This is the only pair that I’ve tried that truly does not budge, one reviewer even calling it, “My thigh’s best friend.” The 10” inseam had me protected all the way down to my knees, and on really active days, I need all the protection I can get.
However, there is one huge caveat: these can really only be worn with dresses and skirts that go down past your knee. My closet is 99% maxi skirts and midi dresses, so this wasn’t really an issue for me.
Something else to note: this was one of the few pairs that I tried out with Knix’s infamous Leakproof technology. Since I don’t plan on using the shorts for this purpose (Diva Cup loyalist), I found the extra padding in the crotch area to be bulky. I'm hoping they have a non-leakproof version available soon!
- Thighs do not roll up
- Protects against chafe
- Very comfortable
- Can't wear under short skirts
Has Knix saved my thighs from chub rub? The verdict:
This may be the first summer in my life where I actually look forward to getting dressed. With the discovery of high-quality and comfortable anti-chafing shorts, my wardrobe options have expanded tenfold. I can finally wear the dresses I’ve always wanted and without the pain of chub rub.
Knix shorts have got to be some of the best shorts I’ve found, and I have to commend a brand for seeing us thick-thighed humans and making something with us in mind. It’s not often that brands focus on creating products for people in larger bodies and offer garments that go all the way up to an XXXXL.
All that said, Knix’s great quality and thoughtful products come with a price tag that may not be in everyone’s budget. Earlier this year, I also tested out some more budget-friendly anti-chafe shorts from Amazon — and spoiler, I loved them too.
