Kate Middleton Wears a Nautical-Inspired Look While Visiting the University of St Andrews
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are getting back to where their relationship began. Today, the royal couple visited the University of St Andrews, their alma mater and where they first met 20 years ago. The pair roamed around the campus, even in the rainy Scottish weather, and spoke with students about coping with attending university during the difficult past year. Will and Kate even planted a tree on campus, which will become the first tree in the St Andrews Forest—a key initiative in making the institution carbon neutral.
For today's visit, the Duchess chose a nautical-inspired look—St Andrews is on the coast, after all. She paired a striped fisherman's sweater with a black double-breasted blazer and black, high-waisted, straight-leg pants. Finishing off the look, Kate accessorized with a black and gold belt and a Duchess of Sussex-favorite shoe, Vejas.
On campus, the Duke and Duchess met with students contributing to the "Can Do" organization, a joint mental health-focused initiative run by the University and the St Andrews Students’ Association. The couple also joined an interfaith discussion with students from the University’s School of Divinity, to hear about how the group is encouraging students with different religious backgrounds to come together. The tree-planting was the day's final event, a project conceived by students on the University’s Environmental Sustainability Board during the pandemic.
The Duchess's fisherman sweater ended up being appropriate, as the royal couple spent their afternoon visiting with local fishermen and their families. Will and Kate heard about the fishing industry in Fife, and the impact of the last year on communities on the East Coast of Scotland.
The pair also ate a seafood barbecue, prepared by local restaurateur Amy Elles, who buys produce from the Fife harbor at the local market.
This St Andrews excursion is part of the Duke and Duchess's tour of Scotland. The pair are making their way around the region, peppering in fun activities along the way. Earlier today, the royal couple went "land yachting" on the famous West Sands beach at St Andrews, hosted by local company Blown Away. The pair is always up for some friendly competition, and proceeded to race on the beach, resulting in many hilarious photos. Below, find a few of our favorites.
